- How do logs stand up to the elements?
- If they are properly treated, sealed and maintained, they will hold up very well for hundreds of years.
- Will my logs shrink and crack?
- Some shrinking, twisting and cracking will naturally occur in logs over time. However, using dead standing logs that have naturally dried over time will greatly reduce the amount of cracking and twisting. Air dried log homes also have less settling problems than kiln dried log homes.
- What about logs and energy efficiency?
- Wood is an extremely effective insulator. Properly built log walls are among the most efficient wall systems.
- Where will my logs come from?
- The logs will come from the Rocky Mountains (usually in Colorado and Utah) and are usually Engelmann Spruce that have been dead standing for over 40 years.
- How are logs sealed and treated?
- All logs are stained with the color of the owner's choice, and they may also choose between water and oil-based stains. This acts as a waterproofing agent. Additional options include but are not limited to: bug and mildew additives to the stain, UV protectant which is added on top of the stain six months later.
- What is the approximate construction time?
- Six months is the average amount of time needed to build your log home. This will vary depending on the size and intricacies of the home.
- How long is a normal construction loan?
- The length of a normal construction loan is six to nine months with extensions available.
